YES I SAW HIM LAST NIGHT. He opened for Simon Amstell, and was abfab.
And then he has this post:
british vs. american senses of humor
“It’s a truism that British comedy is more complex, surreal and experimental than its slick American cousin, so a UK comedy audience keeps having to gauge the precise level of irony and political correctness.”- Nicholas Barber (The Independent) on watching Chris Rock at the O2 arena.
nicholas barber is a moron who needs someone to punch him in the face, pin him to the ground, and then poke him in the face for 2 hours with their index finger going “meow, meow, meow.” i’m actually getting pretty sick and bored and tired of pretentious moronic brits banging on about how brits have a much more sophisticated, clever, ironic, blah blah sense of humor than americans.
here’s the deal. there is no such thing as a british sense of humor, just as there is no such thing as an american sense of humor. show me one show in britain that is more “complex” (whatever the hell that means) than “the daily show,” or a brit talk show host better than letterman or conan and i’ll make you a smoothie, from scratch.
the difference lies not in supposed british or american senses of humor, but in individual senses of humor.
there are some comedians and shows that intentionally create uncomfortable scenes that make you cringe, feel awkward, etc., like jimmy carr, Alan Partridge, The Office to some extent, curb your enthusiasm, which some people love, and others don’t, its just a taste thing.
then there are there are those who like shows that are surreal, non-sensical, absurd, like harry hill, Seinfeld, Arrested Development, the Mighty Boosh, kids in the hall, Monty Python, etc., which i honestly can’t get enough of, i love em. again, just a taste thing.
this has nothing to do with british or american senses of humor, because such a thing, from experience, doesn’t fucking exist. please punch the next person in the face who says so. its getting tiring and annoying. i hate human beings. goodbye
TOO TRUE, MY BROTHA
